In an exciting initiative, The Salvation Army Southern Africa Territory has started implementing the Protective Behaviours programme. This is a prevention Education Programme which places a strong emphasis on imparting safety skills to children in a playful and fun manner, without causing fear or anxiety. The clarity and simplicity of the programme’s messages empowers children to recognize potentially unsafe situations and proactively take charge of their own safety.
Through its targeted prevention strategies, Protective Behaviours actively strives to equip children with the knowledge and tools they need to make well-informed decisions. This programme not only educates children on identifying what is safe and what is unsafe but also teaches problem-solving skills. The programme teaches children how to seek appropriate help when needed, ensuring that children are better prepared to navigate the challenges they may face.
This week the Reflectors of Holiness session of Cadets were trained in Protective Behaviours at the Education and Development Centre. The Cadets are eagerly preparing to serve and empower children in the communities they will be appointed to after their commissioning with the valuable skills they are gaining from the Protective Behaviours programme.
The rollout of this programme across the entire Territory is a significant step in our continued mission to empower children and combat gender-based violence and abuse in Southern Africa. By instilling safety skills and knowledge in our children, we aim to foster a more secure and caring environment for them. It is our hope that, through this initiative, we can be a beacon of hope and positive transformation in the lives of children, ultimately contributing to creating safer communities across the Territory.
