Most of us know how to celebrate Easter. We reflect on the cross. We rejoice over the empty tomb. We declare with confidence, “He is risen!” But there’s one powerful moment in the story of Jesus that often gets overlooked—Ascension Day.

Acts 1:9 tells us, “After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.” At first glance, it might seem like a gentle ending to an incredible story. But this was far more than a closing scene. This was a kingdom moment—one that set everything else in motion. Jesus didn’t just rise—He ascended. And that changes everything.

Jesus Went Up… So the Spirit Could Come Down

In John 16:7, Jesus said, “It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you.” Let that sink in—Jesus told His followers that His departure would actually be to their advantage.

When Jesus ascended, the promise of the Holy Spirit became reality. Now, every believer becomes a dwelling place for His presence. That means the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead is alive in you—strengthening, guiding, comforting, and equipping. You don’t have to rely on your own strength. You’ve been given power from above to live with purpose below.

Jesus Took His Seat… So You Could Take Your Stand

Ephesians 1:20–21 says Jesus is seated “at the right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority.” This isn’t symbolic. It’s a declaration of authority and victory. Because Jesus is on the throne, we can stand firm in every season. No challenge, no trial, no spiritual opposition is beyond His reach. You’re not fighting for victory—you’re living from it. When Jesus ascended, it confirmed that the work was finished. Now, we stand in that finished work with confidence—not shrinking back, not overwhelmed, but established in who He is and what He’s already done.

Jesus Has Prepared… So We Keep Moving

Just before ascending, Jesus gave a clear commission: “You will be My witnesses…” (Acts 1:8). He didn’t leave us wondering what to do next. He gave us a mission and the means to fulfill it.

Jesus ascended to the Father, and Scripture tells us He is preparing a place for us (John 14:2–3). But until that day, we’re not called to stand around staring at the sky. We’re called to move forward in obedience, carrying His message to the ends of the earth. You have a part to play. You’ve been called, filled with the Spirit, and sent out to live in a way that points others to the risen and reigning King.

Lets Consider:

What would change in your daily life if you truly believed the Holy Spirit is not just with you, but living in you right now?

Where do you need to stand firm, remembering Jesus is already victorious?

What’s one step of obedience you can take this week in response to His call to be His witness?

Let’s not treat the Ascension as an ending—it’s a beginning. Jesus went up, the Spirit came down, and now it’s our turn to step out in faith and live like we believe it. His power is in us, His authority covers us, and His mission continues through us.
