I was blessed to be born into a Christian family where the love of God was both taught and practiced. At the age of ten, I made a personal decision to accept Christ as my Lord and Saviour. The verse that has anchored my faith since that day is 2 Corinthians 5:17: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” This truth became real in my life as I began to understand that repentance is not just saying “sorry” for sin, but a transformation involving a change of mind, a change of heart, and a change of attitude.

Those words pierced my heart

From a young age, I sensed God’s call to touch people’s lives, but that call was confirmed in a powerful way during a Youth Councils meeting. The late TYS Major Carl Sithole preached from the book of Jeremiah about God’s call: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5). Those words pierced my heart and challenged me to surrender fully to God’s service. Coming from a family of Salvation Army Officers, I knew that answering the call would not be easy. There were expectations to live up to, and I needed to prove to myself and others that my faith was genuine. Peer pressure and the distractions of youth also tested my resolve, but I realised that I needed to grow strong in the Lord. God began to shape my spiritual gifts, my heart, my abilities, my personality, and my experiences, allowing Him to mould me for His work. A turning point came in 1999 when I joined the Mission Team for a year. That time was life changing. We visited schools, taught life skills, performed drama, and danced for the Lord. Through these ministries, I grew spiritually and discovered the joy of serving Christ in practical ways. Most importantly, my relationship with God deepened, and I learned to rely on Him daily. The Mission Team played a vital role in preparing me for Officership. I entered the College for Officer Training in 2000 and completed my training in 2001. In 2005, I got married, and God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters. Since then, I have been serving faithfully for nearly 24 years.

Victories came not because of my strength, but because of His faithfulness.

Like every believer, my journey has not been without challenges. There have been seasons of testing, doubts, and personal struggles. Yet through it all, God’s grace has sustained me. Victories came not because of my strength, but because of His faithfulness. I have experienced firsthand that His power is made perfect in weakness and that His guidance never fails.

never underestimate what God can do with a surrendered life

As I continue to serve as an Officer in The Salvation Army, I have learned that ministry is not about titles or positions, but about faithfulness, humility, and obedience. My encouragement to others, whether Officers, soldiers, or Christians in any walk of life, is this: never underestimate what God can do with a surrendered life. Stay rooted in His Word, remain open to His Spirit, and trust His timing. The road may not always be easy, but the reward of seeing lives transformed by the love of Christ is greater than anything this world can offer. To this day, my greatest desire is to remain faithful, keep growing, and leave a lasting legacy of service to God and His people.
