Mark Proctor shares a story that is both raw and hopeful, a testimony of God’s faithfulness even when life feels broken. He came to Hesketh King carrying despair, doubt, and a sense of lost direction, yet through God’s gentle and persistent love, his life began to be restored. In this testimony, Mark reflects on the small moments of grace, the people who became God’s hands and feet, and the quiet ways the Spirit worked to bring healing and purpose. It is a story that reminds us that no matter how far we feel from hope, God is never far from us … and His timing is always perfect.
On the 20th of January, 2025, I arrived at Hesketh King as a broken person. I had lost all sense of direction, and although I still clung to my faith, I was lost … lost in despair, with zero self-worth. This was not my first time at a rehabilitation centre, and I had given up all hope.
During the assessment, I was offered my own room, something unheard of in NPO recovery centres. For the first time in a very long time, I managed to get a good night’s rest. In that moment, I realized that the Spirit of God was truly present.
The classes and group sessions were informative, ranging from a Christian-based 12 Step Programme to life skills and drug and health awareness lectures. Volunteers from various churches faithfully sacrificed their time each week to bring the Word and even took the time to visit those at Hesketh King who did not have loved ones present on visiting days.
Upon completing the programme, it was discovered that I had certain skills that could be utilized in the kitchen, and I was offered the opportunity to stay on and serve. It was truly God’s perfect timing, as I had no idea what I would do or where I would go upon being discharged. Almost eight months later, through God’s grace, I have found employment and accommodation at an establishment not far from what I now consider my home.
The Kingdom of God is a Kingdom of honour, and I would like to take this opportunity to honour Him for never giving up on me. I would also like to honour the staff at Hesketh King for faithfully being the healing hands of God. Thank you for making such an invaluable impact in my life. Thank you for your patience, your kind words, and ultimately, for loving me when I could not love myself.

Hesketh King Treatment Centre is one of the most transformative programmes in our territory. We’re grateful for the many lives changed by Jesus at this special place.
Praise God 🙌
