The action and science fiction movie “RoboCop”, tells the story of a policeman who is brutally killed by a group of criminals, but is soon revived by a cybernetic shop that restores his head and mind, reconstructing him in a robotic body. In his new reality the policeman maintains his reasoning but acquires an extraordinary body to face all the enemies.
I frequently think that it would be fantastic to be like “RoboCop”. Have the conditions to face and categorially win the battle with the enemy of my soul, the Devil, who so many times defeats me, exposing my debilities and powerlessness to defend myself against him.
Yet the Bible teaches us that yes, we can be even stronger and more efficient than “RoboCop”. The Word of God presents us the possibility to dress in the armour of God enabling us to be immune to all the Devil’s attacks. The truth is that this armour is at everyone’s disposal and is tailor made for everyone, completely protecting those that wear it.
We were dead in our sins, but God in Jesus gave us back life, and now resurrected with Christ we can dress in his armour and face all the attacks from the enemy and his gang. This is not a movie or fiction; it is the pure reality to be lived by all Christians.
In the movie the policeman, despite having acquired a new body, maintained the head and the reasoning. It is interesting that similarly God respects our free will, or our capacity to decide for ourselves. He gives us the possibility to dress up in His powerful and indestructible armour but doesn’t force us to wear it. It is up to us to recognize our debility and to decide to put on the divine armour.
- Which are your vulnerabilities to the Devil’s attack?
- What is holding you back from dressing in the armour of God?
