Weeks after the official Territorial Annual Blanket Drive 2025, and far from the spotlight, Mzingazi Corps in the Eastern Kwa Zulu Natal Division, under the leadership of CSM Elias Shezi, responded to a call. Needs do not wait for a special day or season to appear. People are vulnerable throughout the year, and our mission is to meet human needs as and when they arise.

When a family of five lost all their possessions in a devastating fire, an accident that also claimed the life of one of their children in the Mzingazi community of Richards Bay, CSM Shezi and his team stepped in without hesitation. They rallied the troops, approached local businesses, and mobilised support to extend a helping hand to the grieving family. EKZN DHQ also contributed, topping up the resources gathered by the Corps to ensure the family received adequate assistance.

Needs don’t wait for the calendar to signal a response, and we are encouraged by local Corps who step up to meet suffering humanity to the best of their ability, bringing hope and sharing Jesus in line with the objectives of our Siyakhula Strategic Plan, where our “units are active in their communities.” When that happens, we are inspired … and I believe Jesus smiles too.
