Sometimes we only recognise how God has been leading us when we pause long enough to look back. For Cadet Angela Moye of Letlhabile Corps in the Central Division, looking back brings a reminder of just how faithful God has been. Here, Cadet Angela shares her story and some of what she has been learning along the way.
I grew up in a township, raised by a single mother in a Christian home where faith was deeply practised. Although the absence of my father tried to plant bitterness in me as a young girl, the love of Christ and the faith exercised at home continually pointed me back to God. From a young age, I was involved in church life and surrounded by Christian values, but I later came to know Jesus Christ personally as my Lord and Saviour while I was at university. One day, alone in my room, watching a sermon online, the Lord encountered me in a very personal way. In that moment, I surrendered my life fully to Him. From then on, my life changed completely in body, mind and heart. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
God had been calling me from my Sunday school days, but for many years I lived in denial of the call to full-time ministry because I had my own plans for my life. Even though I knew God was speaking, I wrestled with surrendering fully to Him. However, during 2022–2023, the voice of the Lord became louder and clearer in my life. I could no longer ignore His direction. Still wrestling with God, I decided in 2024 to seek confirmation by joining the Mission Team. During that season, Ezekiel 3:17–18 became central to my calling. The Lord revealed to me that He had called me to be a watchman – to warn, teach and bring transformation through the saving message of the Gospel for the Kingdom of God. Through this, I understood that obedience to God’s call is greater than personal ambition.
My time at the College for Officer Training has shaped and transformed me greatly. The environment challenged my thinking and stretched me both as an individual and as a disciple of Jesus Christ. I entered CFOT as a shy person who lacked confidence in being used by God, but through prayer, Scripture, devotions and fellowship, God began to mould my character. CFOT taught me the importance of guarding my heart and maintaining a right standing with God daily. It has also shaped my posture of surrender and helped me grow in wisdom concerning the mysteries and revelations of God. I have developed boldness and courage to speak, learn and engage confidently in ministry, holding on to the truth of 1 Peter 3:15.
Throughout my out-training period, I have learned the importance of remaining disciplined in my spiritual life, even in the midst of chaos. My leadership style has been challenged and rebuilt many times, making me stronger and more dependent on God. I have experienced God’s abundant blessings and support through His faithful servants. One statement from my Training Principal remains deeply rooted in my heart: “In times when ministry feels tough and unbearable, your faith and calling will sustain your direction.” I have learned that wherever God sends you, there is a purpose to fulfil. In this season, I have truly experienced that God is good – you simply have to “taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8).
