Three days of celebration (7-9 July 2023) took place with the Divisional Leaders, Major Robert and Captain Juanita Wright, supported by the Corps Officers Lieutenants Mpumelelo and Desire Dathini. The Youth Celebration took place on the Friday evening and included various invited guests sharing their talents in music, song and dance. The Goodwood Youth Group presented a drama based on Romans 5 :1 – 5. The Divisional Commander shared devotions challenging those present to respond to God’s invitation for Salvation.
Saturday dawned in true Cape Town fashion. Cold and raining! This did not deter the Corps folk as they continued with their march of witness and open air meeting. The Corps Officer shared a brief Bible message with those who had stopped to listen. Despite the rain there were those who responded to the invitation and knelt at the drum where someone prayed with them.
Back at the hall the DDWM and her helpers opened a soup kitchen for the people in the community. Corps soldiers, friends and family stayed to share fellowship and engage in a “bring and share” meal. This gave people an opportunity to view the display of Corps history in photographs arranged by Cathy Whittemore.
Saturday afternoon saw a Celebration meeting being held where guests shared their memories of the Corps including Lieut-Colonel Anja Schwartz, Lieut-Colonel Veronica Trollip and Captain Lynn Zola. Counsellor Cecille Janse van Rensburg and Reverend Colin Campbell also spoke during this time. Corps Treasurer Antonette Roestoff directed a Musical of celebration and at the conclusion Major Robert Wright shared devotions and the Captain Juanita Wright closed the time of fellowship with prayer.
The Corps shared in a moving Covenant Sunday Service led by the Divisional Leaders and supported by the Corps officers and local officers. May God bless and extend the influence of Goodwood Corps so that many people come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ!.
