First and foremost, it is important to note that I have only reviewed the demo of this upcoming game, as the full final version has not yet been released. However, for a demo, it was pretty impressive.

Upon reviewing the Christian game known as Gate Zero, you are launched into the dystopian world of Terrapolis in the year 2072. The player plays as the cousin of Hector, whose grandmother has given a cryptic mission to complete. To solve this mystery, you as the player, and Hector decide it is best to go to the source with the help of his time machine, called Gate Zero.

As you step into the time machine, there is a sudden haze of blinding light as you find yourself transported in time to ancient Jerusalem, Capernaum, and surrounding areas. To be more precise, 1st century Israel at the time of the coming of our Lord and King Jesus Christ. The game thus far is filled with exciting events as you travel in the open world, give or take at this point in time a large amount of ground to explore and discover interesting facts about the history and culture of Israel for both past and present.

The character you play is customizable and like other games, you are given a map for navigation, and an inventory for storing and crafting any items you may pick up, such as scrolls telling you of Biblical scriptures, prophecies, and historical information. During loading screens, the game also takes the liberty to have scripture verses up for you while you wait for things to load. As for getting to your destinations you can either walk, run, or gallop with a paid horse. Not to mention the riddles in-game, which in order for you to solve will require the player to search and find particular items or information. This is critical for you to do in order to solve the mystery. However, there is no reason to panic as it does not take an intellectual to figure it out, what with the riddles being both fun and simple enough to solve.

Aside from the main story of living out history to solve the mystery, you will also have other side quests, such as solving other missions or helping out the locals. For example, you can help a local shepherd boy find his lost sheep and bring them home while fending off the hungry wolves that seek to take the sheep. This activity provided a valuable lesson on the Good Shepherd as taken from scripture. As does most of what you do in the game it allows players to experience the Bible first-hand as you explore and obtain knowledge from the word of GOD to take back with you to present times. Be careful of the Romans though, as you will need to dodge and sneak past a number of them to continue in your story. At times such as those it is handy to pick up rocks and chuck them at pottery to lure Romans away from where you need to go.

The graphics and music are both stunning, setting an apt mood for the story whilst creating a sense of peace for the players while they play. Speaking of which, if so desired, players could join together in a local couch co-op experience with mobile phones connected to the PC. The animation also appears to be very smooth along with the game mechanics of stealth and interaction. The story is both interesting and captivating, with some good script and voice acting. To put it frankly I can only go so far to describe what I believe to be an amazing piece of game material. From my recent play of the game’s excellent demo, though it has much more work to be done on it, I can honestly say I cannot wait for the finalized version to come out and would definitely recommend people to try out this game for themselves. Get the family involved and just have a great time as you live out history in 1st century Israel, obtaining or testing your own knowledge of scripture as you dive deep into the Word of GOD. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed and if somehow you are, tough luck, cause I love it! ;]

May God bless you and keep you.

This game is currently available as a demo on Steam. If you have tried the demo … tell us what your experience of the game was in the comments section! We would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Enjoyed the game. My pc struggled a bit with the graphics even on low settings but I’m sure the finished product will be optimized a bit more. It looks like an interesting way to experience what 1st century Jerusalem looked like.
