When children want to spontaneously play the game of football usually two of them will act as captains and alternate in selecting the other players to make up their teams. So, the captains will take turns in choosing the available players till the teams are formed. Usually, the most skilled players are chosen first and the less skilled chosen afterwards. And once the teams are formed, the ones not chosen will have to sit out of the game.
The kids know each other well and therefore they know why the ones being selected are being picked. They are chosen for their skills and ability to play the game and their capacity to be team players. They will play the game and whatever happens it will be remembered in the next round of team selection.
Government election is not a children’s game but maybe we can learn with them, because actually, this would not be a bad criteria to adhere to when facing elections. Geting to know well those running for office, evaluating their ability to fulfill the intended positions, and assessing their capacity to prioritize the collective interests. Once that is done the choice becomes clearer and unequivocal.
As Christians we must exercise our civic responsibilities diligently, we cannot blindly cast our vote because we might be contributing for the destruction of the country, finding ourselves in the losing end. We must vote for the best candidates and contribute for the betterment of the nation.
The Bible teaches us to pray for our government leaders and to honor them. Let’s do that starting by carefully electing them, and afterwards constantly supporting them in prayer! We live in challenging times and those who will lead must be up to the task. It is up to us to elect them!
- What can we learn from the children about who to vote for?
- What criteria do you use to find out who are the best candidates?
