On the 4th of April 2024, seven Mission Team Members arrived at the Education and Development Centre (EADC) from around the Territory to embark on their new journey. The Mission Team programme focuses on leading team members to grow deeper in their relationship with God, while engaging in ministry, learning about The Salvation Army and serving the Kingdom in various ways.

The 2024 Mission Team members are Angela Moye, Candida Mofokeng and Mzwandile Ndlovu from the Central Division; Sinomhlobo Dubayi from the Eastern Cape Division; and Charmaine Chitate, Nomonde Ngomane and Sbongakonke Shabangu from the Mpumalanga & eSwatini Division.

The month of April has been what we call the “Entry Phase.” This is the “getting to know you” phase where each member shares their story, experiences and expectations. To help with this, there have been organizations coming in to facilitate these conversations, such as Heartlines, which focuses on telling one’s story and the Fathers Matter initiative, where concepts are unpacked and discussed. Additionally, Overflow facilitated sessions where each person identified their personality type and reflected on whether it truly represents who they are.

The Mission Team has since visited Daveyton Corps in the Central Division for observation, which was one of many visits to various Corps to observe and engage in practical ministry. From the 4th to the 5th of May, the Mission Team had a team-building weekend at Scripture Union in Magaliesburg. The main purpose of the weekend was to help them understand each other and build healthy relationships amongst themselves. The weekend concluded with a reflection Sunday led by Lieut Colonels T & D Dlamini. On the 8th of May, the Mission Team engaged in their first school ministry outreach at Eastgate Primary School, raising awareness during Child Protection Month.

We are excited about what is yet to come from these seven individuals who have dedicated this year to serving God in this manner. We continue to ask for prayers and God’s guidance for the Mission Team of 2024.
