The streets of Sidwell, located in the Eastern Cape Division, reflect a harsh reality for many who find themselves without a home. People living on these streets are often overlooked, trapped in dire circumstances, struggling to survive day by day. Yet, in the midst of this brokenness, a group of soldiers from the Sidwell Corps Community Care Ministries (CCM) team, led by CCMS Elize Gallant, are stepping in to bring hope and help.
Every week, the eight members of the CCM team put their faith into action. They go out in the evenings—not because it’s easy or convenient, but because they know that this part of their community desperately needs the love of Jesus. With hearts full of compassion, they prepare food and head out to the streets to serve those who have no place to call home. The simple act of sharing a meal is more than just a physical offering; it is a moment of connection, a reminder that someone sees them, cares for them, and believes they are worthy of love.

These team members are sharing more than physical nourishment. They are being the hands and feet of Jesus, meeting people where they are—in the discomfort of their circumstances—and bringing hope in a practical way. They recognize that while they may not be able to change the situation overnight, they can bring light into dark places, one interaction at a time. As they do so, they’re reflecting the heart of Jesus—a heart that sees, loves, and meets the needs of the most vulnerable among us.

In a world that can feel overwhelmingly indifferent, the Sidwell Corps CCM team reminds us that when we show up for others, we become vessels of God’s love, bringing His care into the lives of those who need it most.

Is your Corps/Centre actively serving your community, reaching out to meet people at their point of need? We’d love to hear about it! Please share your story with The War Cry so we can spread the news and inspire others across the Territory.
