‘Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.’ John 1:3 (NIV)

The Bible opens with a majestic declaration: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) John’s Gospel deepens our understanding by revealing that Jesus, the Word, was the active agent in this divine creation. Every star twinkling in the sky, every wave crashing on the shore, every beat of your heart—all were created through Him. Jesus isn’t just a part of creation’s story; He is the co-author of it.

The Power of Jesus, the Word

“Through him all things were made…”

When God spoke the universe into existence, Jesus, as the living Word, carried out the will of the Father. He was the one through whom God’s creative commands were fulfilled. Jesus was not a spectator to creation but its central participant. From the sprawling galaxies to the intricate design of a single flower, everything reflects His divine craftsmanship. The beauty of creation reflects the care and intentionality of Jesus, the Creator. The mountains, rivers, and skies remind us of His artistry. And just as He formed the world with purpose, He made you with equal intention and care. You are not a product of chance but a deliberate creation of God, bearing His image and designed for His glory. Take joy in knowing that you were fearfully and wonderfully made by the One who holds the universe in His hands.

The Authority of Jesus Over Creation

“…without him nothing was made that has been made.”

Jesus’ authority is total. If something exists, it exists because of Him. In His sovereignty, He governs all creation—not just its origin but its ongoing existence. The waves obey Him; the winds listen to His voice. In the Gospels, Jesus calms the storm with a command, showing that creation recognizes its Maker. This same Jesus multiplies bread to feed thousands, demonstrating that His authority extends even to the laws of nature. Creation bends to His will because He is the One who established it.

If Jesus has authority over the cosmos, He surely has authority over the storms in your life. Whatever chaos or uncertainty you are facing, it is not beyond His reach. Trust Him as the One who can speak peace into your circumstances and bring order out of confusion. Surrender your worries to Him, knowing He is both Creator and Sustainer.

Jesus as Pre-Eminent

John’s declaration of Jesus as the Creator calls us to recognize His supremacy in all things. He is not just another figure in history; He is the eternal Son of God. As Paul writes, “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17) Jesus is not bound by time or space. He existed before the first moment and will remain after the last. His position as Creator places Him above all creation—not only in origin but in importance.

Does Jesus hold first place in your life? When we recognize His role as Creator, it reorients our priorities. We begin to see our lives not as our own but as part of His greater purpose. Take a moment to consider: Is there an area of your life where Jesus is not given pre-eminence? Surrender it to Him, trusting that His authority brings peace, order, and renewal.

The Creator Who Cares

Jesus is not a distant Creator who set the universe in motion and walked away. He is intimately involved in the lives of His creation. The same hands that shaped the stars are the hands that healed the sick and embraced the broken. He knows the number of hairs on your head and sees every sparrow that falls. His invitation to us is deeply personal: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Whatever you are facing today, Jesus cares. He is not only capable of bringing order to the areas of chaos of your life but is also deeply compassionate toward your struggles. Trust Him with your burdens, knowing that His care is as personal as it is powerful. Let Him bring beauty and restoration to your heart where it is needed.

He Makes All Things New

Jesus’ creative work didn’t end with the first act of creation. He is continually at work, renewing and restoring all things. In His hands, even the broken pieces of our lives become part of a new and beautiful masterpiece. When life feels overwhelming, remember that the One who created the universe is not finished with you yet. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, and He holds your life securely in His hands.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You are our Creator and Sustainer. Thank You for the beauty of Your creation and for the care You have for each of us. Help us to trust You in every circumstance, surrendering our lives to Your authority and resting in Your love. Remind us daily that we are Your handiwork, created with purpose and loved beyond measure. Amen.
