On 15 January 2025, Territorial Headquarters officers and employees gathered to welcome the incoming Territorial Leaders, Colonels Stephen and Theresa Malins, to THQ.

The Chief Secretary, Lieut Colonel Themba Mahlobo, opened the gathering by sharing how the THQ family is receiving the new Territorial Leaders with open arms and with great anticipation for working together as a team. The Territorial Secretary for Women’s Ministries, Lieut Colonel Nokuthula Mahlobo, led the opening song, ‘Christ is All’, and then committed the time to God in prayer.

The gathering also recognised the arrival of new officers. Captains Mpumelelo and Desire Dathini were welcomed to THQ, while Captains Gregory and Promise Phello were welcomed to the College for Officer Training. The Chief Secretary welcomed the incoming officers, and Major Noluntu Semeno prayed a prayer of blessing over them and their ministries.

Captain Mpumelelo Dathini then guided the gathering into worship, leading God’s people to lift their voices in praise. The worship flowed into the chorus ‘Akhekho ofana no Jesu’, joyfully affirming the truth that there is no one like Jesus.

Mr Philani Msomi shared words of welcome and appreciation on behalf of the employees, reflecting on their character and the way the Colonels live and serve, recalling fond memories of having worked with them before. He concluded with the statement, “We can work together to build a Territory that reflects Christ’s love.” A quartet of THQ employees beautifully ministered in music, singing, ‘All that I am, all I can be, all that is me, accept and use Lord…,’ reminding all that our lives are gifts to be placed in God’s hands for His purposes.

Colonel Theresa Malins responded to the welcome with sincere gratitude, sharing how happy they are to be home and how thankful they are for the opportunity to serve the Territory. The Territorial President of Women’s Ministries then reflected on Psalm 139:17–18, reminding everyone of the beautiful truth that God thinks of each one of us and that His thoughts toward us are abundant, precious, and full of love.

The Territorial Commander, Colonel Stephen Malins, shared devotional thoughts, reflecting on treasured memories from previous years in the Territory and speaking with expectation about the days ahead. Referencing Exodus 36 and Proverbs 15:22, he spoke about the invitation for all to come to the table and to build together, bringing together the abilities and contributions of all to see Kingdom purposes fulfilled. He highlighted the role of THQ in serving the Territory and shared their joy at being home again, affirming the promise of Deuteronomy 31:8 that the Lord goes before His people.

The gathering then moved into a time of prayer and ministry as members of the THQ family prayed for one another. The time ended with the singing of ‘Standing on the Promises of God’, after which the Territorial President of Women’s Ministries pronounced the benediction.

The Territory is invited to hold Colonels Stephen and Theresa Malins before the Lord in prayer, asking for His guidance, wisdom, and peace as they step into this season of leadership. Please also pray for their official welcome this weekend at the Springs Civic Centre, that it may draw us together, strengthen hearts, and refocus us on God’s purposes for our Territory.
