Salvationists from the Eastern KwaZulu Natal Division gathered at Wetani Corps on Sunday, 30 August 2026, for the OWSOMS/Self Denial Appeal Ingathering. Under the leadership of the Divisional Leaders, with the support of Corps Officers and Envoys throughout the Division, the service provided an opportunity for fellowship, learning, reflection and meaningful engagement on matters relating to OWSOMS.
The service commenced with a praise and worship prelude, followed by prayer. The programme then continued with a session entitled The Beauty of Coming to the Table, which focused on the importance and value of families gathering around the table for sharing and fellowship beyond simply enjoying a meal together.
Soldiers and Junior Soldiers were reminded of the significance of giving and why it forms an essential part of worship. The session encouraged everyone to reflect on the meaning behind their giving, emphasising that an offering is not merely a financial contribution but also an expression of gratitude, commitment and participation in the work of God.
The Divisional Leaders, Captains E & L Zola, intentionally structured the programme to combine elements of a traditional Salvation Army Sunday worship service with aspects of a Soldiers’ Meeting, including table conversations that had been introduced earlier by the DDWM. During the first conversation session, soldiers were divided into groups to discuss an important matter concerning the Division. Participation was encouraging, with soldiers openly sharing their views and experiences. Although differing perspectives were expressed, the discussions enabled the groups to find common ground and reach agreement on the matter under consideration.
Lieutenant N. Mbane then presented the history and story of OWSOMS. The presentation provided a deeper understanding of its origins and development, demonstrating that OWSOMS is not a new initiative but one with a significant history within The Salvation Army. This helped soldiers appreciate its importance and encouraged greater support and involvement.
The second conversation session followed, after which the Divisional Commander, Captain E Zola, delivered the Bible message. His message brought spiritual guidance, encouragement and challenge to the Salvationists gathered for worship and fellowship. The service concluded with the offering, announcements and refreshments.
OWSOMS Sunday was awesome indeed, successful and meaningful. The commitment and active participation of the Salvationists in attendance contributed to a productive, informative, and spiritually uplifting service, which I am sure God was pleased with. We believe that God was honoured through the fellowship, discussions, worship, and generous response of His people.
