Y’Connexion is an opportunity for young people to connect with friends, with The Salvation Army and
its leadership, and most importantly to connect with God.
The Divisional Y’Conn Cup has become a major fellowship event among young people specifically
through sports (Netball and Soccer). This year was no exception as young people came together at the YMCA Strandfontein sports grounds.
Young people came from various corps around the Division and registered both their soccer and netball teams. The Youth Board put together the programme and planned for this event with the support of the DYO/DCMO and additional support from the DC/DDWM.

The event started at 10h00am with an introduction and welcome by the DYO and an opening prayer by Captain Crispen Shereni. We proceeded to encourage the team to play fair with a Christ-like attitude whether the teams lose or win. One of the Referees, Cheslyn Markus, outlined the Rules for soccer and Sister Molleen from Langa Corps explained the rules for Netball. The games began! In total 10 teams of 6 team members participated in soccer matches and 5 teams of seven members participated in netball matches.
Young people fellowshipped as they played together during the games, and used the opportunity to get to know each other. At the end of the day, we had three top teams for both sports:
For Soccer, the following teams were the winners:
1st Place – Goodwood Corps
2nd Place – Athlone Corps
3rd Place – Strand Outpost
Netball:
1st Place – Langa Corps
2nd Place – Mannenberg Corps
3rd Place – Matroosfontein Corps
Other young people were honoured as part of the day for the most goals scored, and the player of the tournament was acknowledged. The atmosphere was positive and many young people and leaders departed from the event encouraged.
