God often works in ways we do not fully recognise until we look back and see His hand guiding every step. In this testimony, Cadet Fikisiwe Mtshali from Estill Corps in the Eastern KwaZulu Natal Division reflects on her journey from personal surrender to answering God’s call to full-time ministry. Her story is a reminder that when we say “yes” to God, He faithfully provides everything we need for the journey ahead.
Growing up in a family that introduced me to faith did not automatically mean I knew Christ personally. My late grandfather often taught me the importance of prayer, and I admired his devotion, but I had not yet made my own decision to follow Jesus. I remember clearly when my officer emphasised that wearing a uniform without truly accepting Christ was meaningless. Those words struck me deeply. I realised that I had been walking the journey without Him, and on that day I decided I would not let the opportunity pass me by. I surrendered my life to Christ, and it marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with His grace and presence.
In 2018, during the Easter celebrations, I experienced a defining moment in my spiritual journey. The Divisional Commander made an altar call to those who felt God was calling them into full-time ministry. Deep within me, I knew that God was speaking directly to my heart. Without hesitation, I stood and responded to His call. That decision was not easy, but it was clear that God was inviting me to dedicate my life fully to His service, and I could not ignore His voice.
My time at CFOT has been a season of transformation. More than anything, it has been about allowing God to take full control of my life and drawing closer to Him than ever before. Although challenges came, God remained faithful, just as He promised. In moments when I felt I could not continue, He reminded me why He had called me, because He knew I was able through His strength. That reassurance gave me the courage to keep pressing forward. Living alongside my fellow cadets taught me accountability, teamwork, and servant leadership. CFOT reminded me that being an officer is not simply about leading others, but about being a faithful disciple who reflects Christ’s love in every aspect of life.
During my out-of-training appointment, I was given the opportunity to put into practice what I had learned. So far, the experience has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. There has been great joy and fulfilment in doing what I love most: preaching the Gospel. I learned that I never have to do ministry alone because God Himself called me. He gives me the wisdom and strength I need for every situation. In the moments when ministry felt difficult, I held firmly to God’s words to Joshua in Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
These words continue to remind me that God gives me the strength I need to lead His people in the direction He desires. The journey has not been easy, but with God all things have been possible. I continue to trust the One who called me with every part of my being.
