In a display of love, unity and anticipation, General Lydon Buckingham and Commissioner Bronwyn Buckingham arrived at OR Tambo International Airport to a warm reception by Officers, Soldiers and Staff of the Territorial Headquarters and Central Division. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as The General embarked on his journey to Durban, where our historic 140th-anniversary Congress is set to take place.

Upon touching down at King Shaka International Airport, The General and the World President of Women’s Ministries (WPWM), were greeted with exuberant music from the Mid Kwa Zulu Natal Divisional Band, a local marimba band as well as a dance from the Junior Soldiers of Umlazi Corps. The vibrant, colourful welcome accompanied by words of welcome and gratitude from the Deputy Mayor of Ethekwini was a reflection of the deep respect and enthusiasm that the Salvation Army Southern Africa Territory holds for our International Leaders.

At the airport The General spoke about reflecting on God’s unwavering faithfulness in the past while also acknowledging the abundance of God’s grace and goodness in the present. The General enthusiastically shared words that instilled hope and optimism for the days ahead, emphasizing the opportunity for growth transformative experiences that lie in store as Salvationists gather together for the Congress.

As the Territorial Congress unfolds over the next few days, there is an undeniable sense of anticipation and excitement in the air. Salvationists from across the Territory eagerly await to gather together in worship and fellowship and hearing words of truth and encouragement being shared by The General & Commissioner Buckingham.
