The second day of General Lyndon and Commissioner Bronwyn Buckingham’s visit to South Africa was marked by significant engagements and heart warming moments that unfolded with grace and warmth. The morning commenced with an ecumenical meeting that united hearts and purpose, as the General, World President for Women’s Ministries and Territorial Leadership engaged in meaningful dialogue with the Kwa Zulu Natal Council of Churches in Pietermaritzburg. General Buckingham highlighted the significance, beauty and power of collaborating with the broader Christian community and The Salvation Army’s ongoing commitment to strengthening these valued relationships.
Following this enriching gathering, a warm welcome awaited The General, the World President of Women’s Ministries (WPWM) and Territorial Leadership at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall as the Msunduzi Mayor hosted a reception with the Executive Committee.
In the afternoon, The General and WPWM paid a visit to the Joseph Baynes Child & Youth Care Centre, marking its centenary milestone. For over a century, this institution has been a haven for over 1500 vulnerable children, nurturing them from birth throughout their school years. The visit was attended by the Deputy Mayor, the MEC for Social Development as well as many school principals and faithful volunteers, highlighting the deep-rooted commitment to the welfare and education of these young lives. Commissioner Bronwyn Buckingham shared words of encouragement and heartfelt appreciation for the team nurturing the children entrusted to The Salvation Army. With a legacy of care spanning more than a hundred years, the Joseph Baynes Child & Youth Care Centre remains a beacon of hope and love, continuing to impact the lives of 80 children currently in our care.
