The 26th of April 2024 was a day of celebration, as a group of six young and passionate individuals saw their vision come to fruition at Emangweni in the Mpumalanga & eSwatini Division. Their dream? To purify and sell water, recognizing the critical need for clean water in their community.

The project, known as “Refined,” was born from the desire to not only provide a vital resource but also to empower the youth economically and socially. These six young people, driven by a deep sense of purpose and a commitment to make a difference, started on this journey together.

The handover ceremony was a significant moment, symbolizing the transition of responsibility and ownership from the initiating team to the broader community. The Chief Secretary, Lieutenant Colonel Themba Mahlobo, officially handed over the business to the six young entrepreneurs. This gesture marked the beginning of a new chapter, one where these young people would take the reins and steer the project towards even greater success.

The event was graced by the presence of the Nkomazi Local Municipality and the Tribal Council, Afrimat Mines, their support and encouragement further fueled the enthusiasm and determination of the young entrepreneurs.

But perhaps the most touching aspect of the day was the presence of the people of Emangweni. The community, whose lives would be impacted by this project, came out in full force to show their support. Their presence was a testament to the significance of “Refined” and its potential to transform lives and uplift the community.

As the project moves forward, it serves as a source of hope and inspiration, not just for the youth involved but for the entire community. It is a reminder that with vision, determination, and support, anything is possible. The journey of “Refined” highlights the power of youth empowerment and community engagement, showing the incredible impact that can be achieved when young people are given the opportunity to thrive and make a difference.
