The Salvation Army, as a member of the South African Council of Churches (SACC), participated in the National Memorial Service for Pope Francis, held at Regina Mundi Church in Soweto. Representing The Salvation Army were Chief Secretary, Lieut-Colonel Themba Mahlobo; Territorial Secretary for Women’s Ministries, Lieut-Colonel Nokuthula Mahlobo; and Public Relations and Communications Secretary, Major Thataetsile Semeno. The gathering brought together members of the Christian community to acknowledge the leadership role Pope Francis has played globally. It was a time to stand in solidarity with fellow believers, giving thanks for the impact of leaders in the Church and praying for the Church’s continued witness in the world. As part of the wider Body of Christ, The Salvation Army values opportunities for ecumenical engagement that promote unity, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to the mission of Christ.
