Captain Londiwe Gumede, Corps Officer of Hammarsdale Corps, shares how the Corps has been actively reaching out to alleviate suffering during the harsh winter season. Through a series of compassionate initiatives, the Corps has brought warmth, care, and hope to those in need across their local community.

As part of The Salvation Army’s Territorial Winter Drive Campaign, Hammarsdale Corps in the Mid KwaZulu-Natal Division took the opportunity to share warmth and compassion with those in need from 5–8 June. Reaching out in various locations, the Corps offered both practical support and spiritual encouragement during this cold season.

Women’s Ministries Outreach
The Women’s Ministries team led efforts to bring comfort to some of the most vulnerable. They visited a local senior citizens’ home, serving 40 elderly residents with warm meals, hot beverages, and clothing. A local school partnered with us in this outreach, assisting in both preparation and serving. The team also reached out in an informal settlement, where 70 people were served lunch and received encouragement.

Corps Community Engagement
On Saturday, 7 June, the team set up at a local shopping centre. Approximately 125 people were fed and given warm clothing. In addition to this, the team raised awareness about child protection and prayed with several individuals who requested support.

Youth-Led Home Visits
The young people of the Corps took part in a home visitation effort, reaching out to three families. These families were blessed with new blankets, clothing, and food parcels—demonstrating the love of Christ through simple acts of kindness.

This winter outreach was a meaningful expression of care from the Hammarsdale Corps to their community—offering practical help and reminding people that they are seen, valued, and loved by God.
