The Home League, held weekly at Thembela in the Mid KwaZulu-Natal Division, continues to be a meaningful space of fellowship, spiritual encouragement and practical Christian witness.

As they gathered this week, those in attendance engaged in a creative outreach activity that combined fellowship with purpose. Each person made a sweetie bag — one for herself or himself and an additional one for a preferred person. In just five to ten minutes, something simple became something significant.

For residents staying at Thembela who do not attend the Home League, sweetie bags were anonymously hung on door handles as a special surprise and blessing. A small gift became a quiet reminder of care and God’s love.

The following day, residents and staff from Thembela visited Curro Heritage School, where sweetie bags prepared by them were presented to the team at the school. The visit was well captured and reflected the strong collaborative relationship between Thembela and the Curro Heritage School team. The children entertained the elderly with music and poems, while tea was served by their well-prepared learners, making it a joyful and memorable experience for all involved. What began within the weekly Home League meeting extended beyond its walls, strengthening connection and goodwill in the wider community.

During the Home League the attendees were reminded from Scripture of the story of the Good Samaritan, who demonstrated love beyond barriers. His example calls believers to notice, to care and to act. With February recognised as the month of love, it was a fitting opportunity to reach out intentionally and share the love of Jesus in practical ways.

Appreciation is expressed to Home League Secretary Susan Kidgell for her creativity and for guiding the group in this initiative. Her teaching and encouragement helped turn a brief craft activity into a meaningful expression of Christian love. Through their weekly gathering, the Home League at Thembela once again demonstrated that faith is lived out not only in words, but in thoughtful acts of kindness that reflect the heart of Christ.
