From the 23rd to the 25th of May, Johannesburg hosted an important event in the journey of prospective officers for The Salvation Army—the Candidates Assessment. Seven delegates from the Central Division, Mid KwaZulu-Natal Division, and the Mpumalanga & eSwatini Division gathered for three days of focused evaluation and spiritual discernment.
The prospective candidates who attended the assessment were:
- Patience Mhlanga (Galeshewe Corps)
- Siphosethu Memani (South Rand Corps)
- Sipho & Sindisiwe Manana (Msunduza & Langeloop Corps)
- Nokukhanya Gwala (Imbali Corps)
- Lusanda Ntimane (Steenbok Corps)
- Nomcebo Makubela (Block B Corps)
During this time, each candidate underwent a comprehensive series of assessments designed to explore their calling, character, and readiness for officership. These included personal interviews with a panel of vocational, academic, psychological, lay, and pastoral assessors. The varied perspectives offered by the assessment team provided a holistic understanding of each individual’s gifts, challenges, and potential to serve in God’s mission.

The assessment process is a time of waiting and listening—both for the candidates and for those guiding them. As we continue to watch and wait upon the Lord for His clear leading regarding the next steps for each prospective candidate, we uphold them in prayer. We ask that God would guard their hearts and minds with His peace, sustaining them as they seek to follow His will with faithfulness and courage.
This Candidates Assessment is an important part of nurturing new leaders who will carry The Salvation Army’s mission forward. May God’s grace and wisdom continue to guide these young servants as they prepare to answer His call.
