Emangweni Corps and Tonga Corps Home League came together to celebrate Ascension Day. The women gathered in a beautiful and blessed atmosphere under the leadership of CS Matukane. The programme began with praise and worship, followed by prayer led by all the women present, inviting the presence of God into the gathering.
Major Shekwa (R) warmly welcomed everyone and shared the purpose and significance of Ascension Day. She explained the importance of remembering the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven after His resurrection and encouraged the women to continue trusting and serving God faithfully as they wait for the return of Christ. The congregation worshipped joyfully through the song You Are Alpha and Omega, glorifying God as the beginning and the end of all things.
The venue was beautifully decorated in blue and white, representing peace, purity, heaven, and the glory of Ascension Day. Blue and white cloths were placed on the central table, together with sky blue and white flowers, refreshments, white candles, one blue candle, an open Bible, decorative flowers, and a small board carrying the message of the day.

Scripture was shared throughout the programme, drawing the congregation into reflection on the meaning of Ascension Day and its impact on daily faith. From Ephesians 2:6, the women were reminded that God has raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms. This Scripture affirmed that through Christ, believers are spiritually lifted and connected to the promises of heaven.
Colossians 3:2 was then shared by Cadet Mbokazi, who encouraged the women to set their minds on things above rather than on earthly concerns. She spoke about the importance of remaining focused on God despite the challenges of life, reminding the congregation that God calls His children to live with faith, hope, and spiritual vision.
Lieutenant Siphokazi Makebesana shared from Acts 1:9 to 11, reflecting on the ascension of Jesus and the promise of His return. She encouraged the women to continue praying, serving, and standing firm in faith, holding onto the assurance that Jesus Christ will return in the same way He ascended into heaven.
Creativity, meditation and prayer
The ladies sang the hymn Peace, Perfect Peace (156 or 169), which gently led everyone into a meaningful time of meditation and prayer. Each woman then chose a prayer topic as the group walked outside holding hands in unity, love, and sisterhood. Prayers were offered for families, the church, leadership, children, healing, and spiritual growth, creating a powerful atmosphere of faith and togetherness.
The programme ended with a joyful time of fellowship, as everyone shared refreshments, encouragement, love, and thanksgiving together. The women were reminded to carry the message of the day with them, as Scripture encourages us: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2
