East Rand Section women reflect on foundations that last

The Women’s Ministries of the East Rand Section gathered at Germiston Corps on 11 May 2025 for a day that brought together practical skills, fellowship, and spiritual encouragement. Sixty seven ladies were in attendance as Naomi and Mother’s Day were celebrated under the theme, “A wise woman builds her house”, taken from Proverbs 14:1.

The day began with Dorcas training led by Captain Khanyi Mcineka, where the women were encouraged to think creatively and resourcefully. Through hands on demonstrations, they were taught how to crochet onto the straps of flip flops and how to use hair ties in creative ways to decorate them. This session highlighted how simple materials can be transformed with skill and imagination, reflecting the Dorcas ministry’s focus on practical service and empowerment.

Following the training, the programme moved into the Naomi and Mother’s Day celebration. The theme reminded those present that women are builders in many areas of life. We build in our homes, families, workplaces, churches, and communities. Every decision we make contributes to what we are building, often in ways we may not immediately recognise.

The programme was enriched by personal testimonies shared by several ladies. One testimony came from a single mother who spoke honestly about the hardships she has endured, while also sharing how she has seen the hand of God at work throughout her journey.

Another mother shared about her experience of raising a child with special needs. She expressed gratitude for the love, care, and support she and her daughter receive from their Corps family. Her testimony reflected the importance of Christian community and the strength that comes from knowing one is supported and not walking alone.

A further testimony was shared by a widow who spoke openly about the challenges that are part of life after loss. She also shared how the comfort and strength of God have been just as real to her as the challenges themselves, offering encouragement to others walking similar paths.

DDWM Major Leanne Browski brought the main message of the day, drawing on Matthew 7:24 to 27 and Proverbs 14:1. She reminded the women of the difference between the wise and foolish builders, and the importance of building on a firm foundation. When storms come, a house built on Christ stands, while anything built on unstable ground cannot endure.

Reference was also made to John 17, reminding the women that while we live in the world, we are not meant to be shaped by its values. The encouragement was to resist building on temporary things such as status, money, or recognition, and instead to build lives rooted in Christ, who remains constant in every season.

The day served as a reminder that building well requires intention. Strong foundations do not happen by chance. Spiritually, this means choosing faith, obedience, and daily dependence on God. When Christ is the foundation, what we build can endure.

As the women left, there was a renewed sense of encouragement and purpose. The gathering affirmed that when we build with wisdom and place our trust in God, our lives can reflect His strength and grace. A wise woman builds her house, and when that house is built on Christ, it will stand.
