What a glorious Sunday it was. What was meant to be a prayer walk against alcohol and drug abuse became a powerful evangelistic moment for the Home League members of Krugersdorp and Randfontein.
The two Corps gathered to commemorate the World Day of Prayer, enrol new Home League members, and enjoy a time of fellowship together. The programme concluded with a prayer walk through the community. Little did we know that God had even greater plans in store for the day. As Proverbs 16:9 reminds us: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Along the way, one of the ladies encountered a young man who was deeply moved by the moment. Humbly, he shared his love for Jesus and for The Salvation Army. He explained that whenever he intends to come to church, something always seems to distract him and prevent him from attending. The ladies assured him of God’s love and encouraged him to come just as he is. They prayed with him there on the street, trusting that the Lord will draw him closer and rescue him from the traps that seek to keep him away from God.

Further along the route, the group passed a young man who was running a small fruit and vegetable stand on the corner. As they approached, he called out loudly, “Women of God, please come and pray for me. Things are not going well.” His request was so sincere that it could not be ignored. Several of the ladies stopped to pray with him while the rest of the group continued along the route in prayer.
In those moments it became clear that our presence on the streets was no coincidence. God had led us there for a purpose.
As children of God, we must always be ready to share the hope of Christ and respond as the Holy Spirit leads. We are grateful that we remained open to His prompting and were not limited only to the plan of the prayer walk. What began as a simple walk of prayer became a reminder that God is always at work—often in ways we do not expect.
