Today, THQ launched 16 days of activism against violence towards women and children, making a stand against gender-based violence (GBV). The programme featured a blend of songs, candle-lighting in remembrance of GBV victims, and prayer stations addressing various forms of abuse, interceding for both victims and perpetrators, and advocating for justice and healing. Major Magdeline Mugama shared insights into the impactful ministry at Beth Shan, The Salvation Army’s haven for abused women. The event also welcomed a special guest, Ms. Victoria Muthaphuli, who bravely shared her journey through domestic abuse.
The Salvation Army is committed to helping victims of gender-based violence. Our places of safety in Cape Town and Pretoria provide a refuge for abused women and their children, offering not only shelter but also opportunities for healing and skills development, empowering them to become self-reliant as they re-build their lives.
It is everyone’s responsibility to get involved in turning the tide of gender-based violence. Let’s unite our voices to speak out against violence – if you see something, say something!
