In a world where freedom is still denied to many, the cry of “Let My People Go” from Exodus 5:1 NIV still needs to be declared. This year, on Sunday, 22 September, The Salvation Army invites you to join in the International Day of Prayer for Victims of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. Together, we can lift our voices echoing the ancient plea that still holds power today.
Modern slavery and human trafficking are evils that continue to ensnare millions of people worldwide. As followers of Christ, we are called to stand against this injustice, to be the voice for the voiceless, and to intercede for those who suffer in silence. This year’s theme, drawn from the encounter between Moses and Pharaoh, reminds us that God hears the cries of the oppressed and that He calls us to be agents of liberation.
Global Participation and Resources
The Salvation Army, committed to social justice, has prepared a wealth of resources to engage Corps, small groups, and individuals. These include teaching materials, Bible studies, and resources specifically designed for youth and children, ensuring that your entire Corps family can participate meaningfully.
A special 24/7 prayer campaign will take place in the week leading up to Sunday, 22 September. This initiative invites Salvationists worldwide to unite in continuous prayer, covering each hour of the week with petitions for freedom and justice. Imagine the power of a global prayer chain, hour after hour, lifting up those trapped in the darkness of modern slavery. Your participation in this chain is vital—it is a practical way to make a difference, even from your own home or place of worship.

Engage and Act
The International Social Justice Commission (ISJC) has also provided materials to help us reflect deeply on this theme and equip us to take action. These resources are more than educational; they are also a call to action. As you engage with the Bible studies and discussions, consider how you and your Corps can advocate for change in your local context.
We encourage you to not only pray but to raise awareness within your community. Organize prayer meetings, share the resources provided by the ISJC, and create opportunities for your Corps to learn more about modern slavery and how to combat it. This is a fight that requires all of us, united under God’s command to “Let My People Go.”
Your Role in This Global Movement

As you prepare to mark this day, remember that your prayers are powerful. They are part of a global movement that stretches across continents and cultures, united in the name of Jesus. By participating in the 24/7 prayer campaign and utilizing the resources available, you are standing in solidarity with victims of modern slavery and human trafficking, bringing their plight before the throne of grace.
Let us, as a the Salvation Army Southern Africa Territory, heed the call of Exodus 5:1. Let us pray fervently, act justly, and love mercy, trusting that God will move mightily as we cry out together: “Let My People Go.”
