On November 25th, the Mid Kwa Zulu Natal DHQ partnered with Alexandra Road SAPS and Lifeline to launch the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The initiative kicked off at the bustling Alexandra Road from 6:30 a.m., where ongoing traffic showed their support by hooting, while volunteers handed out informative materials to drivers.

Pedestrians on their way to work stopped to engage in meaningful conversations, many sharing their own experiences with GBV. One woman bravely approached the team to share her heart-wrenching story of enduring years of abuse from her husband.

Later that day, a dialogue session was held at the Alexandra Road Police Station. The station commander, alongside various stakeholders, facilitated a platform for open discussion and collaboration, aiming to address and combat the ongoing surge in GBV within the community.

The day’s outreach concluded with an awareness programme at Grange Clinic, focusing on child health. Hampers were distributed to mothers with young children, reinforcing the message of care and support.

This initiative highlights the power of partnership and community action in the fight against GBV, reflecting The Salvation Army’s commitment to justice, compassion, and creating safe spaces for all.
