Tue. Mar 17th, 2026

On 14 February 2026, the The Salvation Army Vosloorus Corps made a deliberate decision. Instead of celebrating Valentine’s Day in the traditional way, the Corps chose to focus intentionally on the love of God – exploring how His love shapes every section of church life. Rather than a single event, the day became an expression of love shared through fellowship, worship, planning, sport, teaching and prayer.

Women of Faith

The Women of Faith (the Home League ladies), dressed in red and white, gathered to reflect on Scriptures including 1 Samuel 1:1–2, Esther 4:14, John 3:16, Psalm 86:15, Ephesians 1:4 and Proverbs 3:5. Nineteen women, joined by the Corps Officer, prayerfully discussed the love of God and planned their programme for the year ahead. Their theme was clear: God’s love comes first. It was a meaningful time of encouragement and spiritual equipping, with a renewed commitment to practice and demonstrate love daily in their homes, church and community.

Eleven young women gathered for fellowship under the same theme. Their discussion was thoughtful and filled with vision for the year ahead. As they shared ideas and reflected on God’s love, there was a sense of purpose and spiritual maturity that encouraged those observing. The prayer is that these young women will continue to grow in faith and become pillars of strength within the Corps and Community.

Men’s Fellowship

The men’s fellowship used the day to plan for the year ahead, placing emphasis on visitation, fellowship and submission to God’s will. With Christ at the centre, there is a growing desire to see revival take root through faithful obedience to His Word. The spirit of unity was evident – a reminder that in the Kingdom of God, we are one.

A Growing Band

The Bandmaster saw the day as an opportunity to invite those who desire to worship the Lord through instruments. Nine members attended the practice, and before any theory was taught, the session was dedicated to the Lord in prayer. There is excitement about what God is establishing through this developing ministry, and anticipation for future open-air meetings where the sound of worship will reach the community.

Let the Children Come

One of the most joyful sights of the day was the 126 children gathered for Sunday School. Through games, music, activities and the teaching of God’s Word, they experienced the love of Jesus in practical and meaningful ways. Their leaders guided them with dedication and care, trusting God for wisdom as they shape young lives while hearts are still tender and receptive.

Young Men’s Ministry

Twenty-seven young men gathered for fellowship, including a soccer match in the open space next to the Corps. Divided into two teams, everyone had the opportunity to participate and enjoy the time together. The Corps Officer has also established a team to ensure easier access to ministry support for young men, with prayer that the Holy Spirit will guide them as they grow in their relationship with God.

A Command That Shapes Everything

The day concluded with a message from John 13:34, where Jesus commands His followers to love one another as He has loved us. The challenge was clear: demonstrate love in the church, in the workplace and within families. A total of 199 people were impacted and encouraged through the different ministries.

Valentine’s Day at Vosloorus Corps was not about a celebration on the calendar, but about returning to what matters most – the love of God. Throughout the day, that love was seen in fellowship, planning, worship and laughter across every age group. As a Corps, the prayer remains steady: that we would continue to love one another, and those around us, as Christ has loved us.
