On 13 to 14 February 2026, seventy six local officers and prospective local officers from the nine Circuits in the Northern Kwa Zulu Natal Division gathered at William Booth Corps for intensive training facilitated by the Divisional Leaders, Majors P and V Buthelezi. The purpose of the weekend was to equip local officers to carry out their responsibilities within the Corps and the wider community with confidence and clarity.
The first day focused on spiritual foundation and the core roles of leadership. The Divisional Commander, Major V Buthelezi, guided participants through the vision, mission and core values of The Salvation Army. He reminded the group that all ministry must reflect who we are as a movement shaped by Scripture and committed to the gospel. Major P Buthelezi then outlined the role and function of each local officer and highlighted the value of working together.
Day two turned to practical ministry and administration. Lieutenant M Mdluli opened with a devotion from Joshua chapter one, encouraging officers to be strong in the leadership challenges they may face. Major V Buthelezi presented an overview of the division including finances and statistics. This helped set the direction for the day. Local officers were then given practical training on how to conduct a Pastoral Care Council and a Corps Council. Lieutenant B Nkambule used hands on exercises to teach financial returns and statistics. Major P Buthelezi also spoke about the importance and sensitivity of ceremonies with special attention to funerals. The final session focused on sermon preparation and preaching and was led by the Divisional Commander.
The weekend was an investment in the local officers who serve faithfully in the Northern Kwa Zulu Natal Division. There is confidence that the training will support growth in faith, love, quality and quantity as local officers return to their Corps and continue the work of building the Kingdom.
