Recently, a special two-day event held on 11th and 12th July 2024 brought together officers preparing for retirement within the next three years. The orientation was more than just a series of talks; it was a heartfelt gathering that celebrated a lifetime of service and dedication.
The event commenced with inspiring insights shared by Territorial Leaders, Commissioners Torben and Deise Eliasen, setting a thoughtful tone for the days ahead. Throughout the sessions, various speakers, each a specialist in their respective fields, imparted invaluable knowledge and wisdom gained from years of experience.
The speakers touched on everything that an officer needs to know on their road to retirement, including:
- Medical, Optical, and Dental Allowances
- Finances
- Property
One of the highlights was the personal journeys shared by two officers, reflecting on their paths and the lessons learned along the way. These narratives not only inspired but also served as a testimony to the dedication and commitment inherent in their roles.
As the orientation drew to a close, participants had the honour of hearing from the Chief Secretart and TSWM, Lieut Colonels Themba & Nokuthula Mahlobo, whose closing remarks encapsulated the spirit of gratitude and admiration for the officers’ years of service.
Beyond the formalities, the event provided a space for officers to fellowship and connect on a personal level. Amidst these gatherings, a joyful celebration marked the special birthday of Major Mel Deslate.

In essence, the retired officer orientation was a beautiful and sacred gathering, where service was honoured, stories were shared, and friendships were strengthened. It served as a important reminder of the impact of a lifetime dedicated to serving others, leaving a lasting impression on all who participated.
