In a world overwhelmed by injustice, each of us can play a vital role in fighting modern slavery and human trafficking. This issue affects millions, including vulnerable children, refugees, and those trapped in extreme poverty. Modern slavery isn’t just about physical chains—it’s a complex reality encompassing forced labour, sexual exploitation, child labour, and early marriage. Human trafficking for sexual exploitation impacts women, girls, boys, men, and transgender individuals, with its reach extending to pornography and sex tourism, further exacerbated by digital technology. Forced labour and domestic servitude trap individuals in hazardous and degrading conditions, while debt bondage and child labour perpetuate cycles of exploitation. Additionally, the trafficking of body parts involves severe violations of human rights, often with grave consequences for the victims. Modern slavery touches every corner of society and requires us to make a stand and work together to bring it to an end.

In The Salvation Army, we are driven by our faith and commitment to justice. We believe every person is made in the image of God and deserves dignity and respect. The Bible speaks strongly against exploitation, urging us to stand up for the oppressed. As it says in Isaiah 1:17, “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” Jesus came to bring freedom to the captives, and we are called to continue that mission.

Here’s how you can make a difference:

Pray: Begin with prayer, seeking God’s guidance and strength. Praying aligns us with His will and empowers our efforts.

Get Involved: Every Salvation Army Corps and Center can make a difference. Raise awareness, support survivors, and advocate for justice in your community.

Prevent: Address the root causes of modern slavery. Promote fair trade, support vulnerable populations, and educate others about these issues.

Protect: Assist survivors in rebuilding their lives. Provide safe spaces, advocate for better conditions, and offer emotional and spiritual support.

Support Justice: Work with law enforcement to hold traffickers accountable. Support legal reforms to ensure long-term solutions.

Advocate for Change: Encourage policymakers to develop and implement strategies against modern slavery and human trafficking.

Collaborate: Partner with other organisations to strengthen our impact. Together, we can achieve more.
