I once thought I was the epitome of patience, with all the time in the world to spare. However, life had other plans. Through various challenges and situations, I’ve learned valuable lessons about waiting and being patient. These experiences have sharpened my perspective and strengthened my ability to cultivate patience—a journey in which even my wife has played a significant role.
Patience is a fruit of the Spirit that enables us to endure hardships, remain calm, and persevere until we see the desired outcome. It’s a crucial pillar in one’s faith journey, complementing faith perfectly. While faith involves believing often without seeing, patience involves sowing and waiting.
The Bible teaches us about the stages required in life for success. Romans 12:12 (NIRV) reminds us: “When you hope, be joyful. When you suffer, be patient. When you pray, be faithful.” As young people, whether saved or not, patience is an essential principle that helps us understand the value of waiting for what truly matters.
Patience allows us to adopt a waiting posture that blocks out anxiety and negative thoughts, enabling us to trust in the process. Pursuing a degree, for instance, requires patience. We invest time, effort, and resources, knowing it takes years to achieve our goal. Similarly, patience is like praying and sowing seeds—trusting that God will answer in due time.
Farmers exemplify patience perfectly. They sow seeds, allowing them to germinate, take root, and grow—always aware of their surroundings and conditions. Likewise, as we practice patience, we should be mindful of our environment: the company we keep, the media we consume, and the choices we make.
As I reflect on my journey, a song resonates deeply with me: “Keep me true, Lord Jesus, keep me true… Give me power, every hour, to be true.” Remaining faithful to God while we wait is crucial. Challenges will surface, and negative thoughts may flood our minds, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.
“But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31 NKJV)
By embracing patience, we can trust God in the process, avoid shortcuts, and ultimately reap the rewards of our hard work and dedication. May we cultivate patience and remain faithful, trusting in God’s perfect timing.
