For three days, from 1–3 April, The Salvation Army’s Territorial Leaders gathered in Johannesburg—to engage in matters of mission and for a meaningful, holy time of seeking and hearing from the Lord.
In his keynote address, Territorial Commander Commissioner Torben Eliasen reminded leaders of a truth that can be easy to forget in the midst of daily ministry demands: The salvation war is not just about strategy or effort—it is a spiritual battle. Using the story of Gideon, he painted a picture of a God who is not indifferent but sees, cares, and calls His people to trust Him completely. Victory, he emphasized, does not rest on human ability but on God alone.
The Territorial President of Women’s Ministries, Commissioner Deise Eliasen, spoke about responsibility—not just as a duty, but as “response-ability,” the ability to respond to God with faith, obedience, and courage. Throughout the conference, the daily devotions and evening reflections led by Colonel Teresa Tuck gently challenged thoughts and hearts. Leaders were given moments to pause, reflect on their ministry, and examine their walk with the Lord, inviting God to speak into their lives in a fresh and meaningful way.
As the conference drew to a close, Chief Secretary Lieut-Colonel Themba Mahlobo delivered a message of hope from Ezekiel 37, declaring with conviction, “God can make dry places live again!” His words served as an important reminder that God is in the business of renewal and restoration.
As the leaders departed, it was with more than a sense of completion—they left with a deepened confidence and peace that this work is God’s work. When He leads, when He breathes life, when He fights for His people—victory is not just possible. It is certain.
