Evangelism Training in the Eastern Kwa Zulu Natal Division

The Eastern KwaZulu-Natal Division recently hosted a Young People’s Training on Evangelism at Mandeni Corps. As our evangelism theme says, “Blessed are the feet that bring good news” (Romans 10:15), this Scripture was practically lived out over the weekend.

The outreach began on Friday evening with words of encouragement from our Divisional Leaders, followed by a brief training and refresher session. This reminded those previously trained by Captain Maphalala of the importance of evangelism, while also equipping those joining for the first time. Guidance was given on approach, expectations, and the dos and don’ts of evangelism.

Saturday morning began with a devotion shared by Cadet Moye, strengthening the evangelists for the work ahead. Thereafter, the group walked from the Corps premises to the busy area of KwaGcaleka in Sundumbili (Mandeni) for one-on-one evangelism. Eighty people were reached and two souls were won for the Kingdom. A kids’ club followed, with 38 children in attendance.

Door-to-door evangelism then took place in the Corps neighbourhood. Nineteen homes were visited and 45 people were reached. The day concluded with a debriefing session and prayer of thanksgiving. Young people shared their experiences, testimonies, and challenges faced during evangelism. Rejection — especially when sharing the Gospel with peers — was one of the challenges mentioned. Yet there was gratitude to God for the opportunity. Many testified that what had once seemed impossible and frightening became manageable because they were prepared and, above all, because God was with them. Even when unsure of what to say, He provided the right words.

Evangelism not only impacted the community but also strengthened and deepened the faith of the young people, stretching them beyond their comfort zones. They concluded the weekend by worshipping together at Mandeni Corps. When asked if they would do it again, the response was immediate and certain — yes, eagerly waiting for the next opportunity.
