In 2 Samuel 12: 15-23, we read the story of the illness and eventual death of David’s first child with Bathsheba. This is an accurate description of a depressed man.

David had been tempted by Bathsheba, slept with her, tried to hide his sin by inviting her husband from war to sleep with her, and finally orchestrated her husband’s murder when Uriah remained disciplined by not sleeping with his wife while his fellow soldiers were at war. The prophet Nathan exposed David’s sin and David withdrew. He stopped eating, he wasn’t bathing and wasn’t interacting with the servants. He praised God, bathed and ate after hearing the news of his son’s passing.
