If you drive a car, you know how closely we tend to watch the petrol gauge. When the tank is full, there’s peace of mind. When it’s halfway, we’re aware. But when that warning light comes on—we take notice. It’s a signal that something needs attention. The gauge doesn’t lie—it tells us exactly where we are.
And right now, as we hit the midpoint of the year, it’s a good time to check our own spiritual gauge. Not in a rushed or pressured way—but with honesty and intention. Let’s take a moment to pause and ask:
Are we still living as living sacrifices?
Romans 12:1 gives us this important encouragement:
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
Living as a sacrifice means surrendering our whole lives—not just in theory, but in practice. It’s a daily offering of our thoughts, decisions, relationships, time, and resources to the God who gave everything for us.
But life is busy. Ministry is demanding. And sometimes, without meaning to, we find ourselves drifting—just a little. Our gauge moves from full to half, then maybe, if we are watching, we see a few warning lights flickering:
- We’re serving, but our joy feels dim.
- We’re reading the Bible, but not really hearing from God.
- We’re giving, but with a quiet resentment.
- We’re showing up, but our hearts feel disconnected.
Those are signs—not of failure—but of fatigue or disconnection. Like a car low on fuel, they remind us to stop, fill up, and reset our direction.
Here’s how we can gently do a mid-year spiritual check:
- Pause and Reflect
Ask yourself: Where am I with God right now? Is my life still surrendered? - Pay Attention to the Warning Lights
Are there areas where your passion has dimmed or your focus shifted? What might God be gently highlighting? - Remember His Mercy
Paul grounds this call in God’s mercy. We’re not offering ourselves out of guilt—but out of gratitude for all He’s done. - Recommit Your Heart
Surrender doesn’t need to be loud. It can be quiet, personal, and powerful: “Lord, I’m Yours—again.” - Refuel for the Journey
You don’t have to do it alone. Spend time with Him. Lean on your Corps family. Rest in His presence. Let Him restore your strength.
And as you reflect, take a moment to pray:
Lord, thank You for Your never-ending mercy. Thank You that You meet me even when I feel low or worn out. Today, I offer myself to You again. Fill me, lead me, and help me live as a living sacrifice. Use my life—fully and freely—for Your glory. Amen.
So, what’s your gauge showing today?
If it’s full—praise God and keep moving forward with purpose. If it’s halfway—slow down and let Him top you up. If that warning light is blinking—He’s not scolding you. He’s inviting you back to life. Let’s finish the year not just busy, but burning brightly. Let’s keep living surrendered, joyful, and available.
Let’s keep living as living sacrifices.
