In The Salvation Army, there is an amazing opportunity to get involved in community transformation. Community Care Ministries (CCM) engages in impacting communities by coming together to make a positive impact on the spiritual and social needs of our local community. This mission aligns with what Jesus emphasized in Matthew 25:40 (NIV): ‘Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Understanding Community Care Ministries:
CCM is like a caring family within our church—a group of people who want to help and make a difference in the lives of those around us. The goal is to show God’s love in practical ways, meeting the needs of our community without discrimination and sharing the love of Christ. What are people saying in your community about The Salvation Army? Are we visible enough to be known as people who care? Some are doing bits here and there, which is appreciated, but we can do more through Christ who strengthens us. The Word commands us to do good in Hebrews 13:16: “ Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.“

What can your Corps do to get CCM off the ground? Here are 5 Practical Steps:
1. Pray for God’s Guidance:
Before diving into action, spend time in prayer. Seek God’s wisdom and guidance for understanding the community’s needs and how best to address them. Trust that God will lead and guide every step of the way.
2. Look Around the Community:
Take a close look at the community—observe, listen, and understand. Identify the needs that people may have, both spiritually and practically. It could be anything from loneliness and spiritual hunger to more physical needs like food or clothing, or even something like an after-school homework club to help children academically.
3. Collaborate with Corps Members:
Talk to the members of your Corps. Share observations and insights. Collaborate with others to gather different perspectives and ideas. This collective brainstorming will help in finding effective solutions and mobilizing resources.
4. Plan Practical Ways to Meet Needs:
With insights gained from prayer and collaboration, plan practical steps to meet the identified needs. This could involve organizing events, creating support systems, offering educational resources, or initiating partnerships with local organizations.
5. Step Out in Faith:
After careful planning and seeking God’s guidance, it’s time to step out in faith. Implement the plans with confidence, knowing that God is with you. Every act of kindness and support is a reflection of Christ’s love for the community.
